I am so excited for ya’ll to have fun with this book that I decided to make sure someone came out of this contest with just about everything they need to start experimenting with plant colors from their garden.
I put a Natural Dye Starter Kit together and the only thing you’ll need to play alchemist is a heat source (stove or what-have-you) and some plant materials of your choosing.
The natural dye starter kit will have everything else:
• 1 16 Quart Stainless Steel Pot — For either mordanting fiber or for the botanical dyebath
• 1 12 Quart Stainless Steel Pot — (Same as above) Some people like to designate one specific pot for mordanting, so I want you to have two pots right away.
• 1 A Garden to Dye For Book — My book will be included, but if you don’t win & would like to have a copy, you can get an autographed one here on my site or head over to an indie book store or Amazon for a copy.
• 1 A Garden to Dye For Seed Tin — Peaceful Valley Farm and Garden Supply put this seed tin together especially for this book and I am tickled pink about it! You really need one, so I added this, too.
• 1 Pair of Tongs
• 1 Pair of Gloves — I’ll admit, they’re not exactly heavy-duty. They’re just for light (and adorable) protection.
• 1 Set of Measuring Spoons
• 1 Strainer
• 4 Wooden Spoons
• 100% Silk Scarves from Dharma Trading Company — Once you create eco scarves you will never stop. Never.
• Playsilks — 100% silk that you’ll color with all natural, botanical dyes. Lucky kids.
• 100% Merino wool yarn — Some pure wool for you to mess around with from Dharma Trading Company.
• Cream of Tarter — I always toss this into my mordant bath. It helps make colors bright.
• Alum — My favorite, gentle mordant.
• 1 Dyeing Wishes novel by Molly MacRae — My fabulous friend, Jenny Peterson sent me this book and I had the best time reading it while writing A Garden to Dye For. So I had to include it in this giveaway! If you like cozy mysteries, you’re going to have as much fun with it as I did (especially if you are a fiber, yarn, or dye fan).
I’m making this really (really) simple. Just follow my Pinterest page and leave a comment on A Garden to Dye For’s Facebook page telling me what your favorite type of garden is and we’ll toss your name into the contest, easy-peasy. Then just like back in the olden days (when drawings were fun) before Rafflecopter, on May 20th, we’re kickin’ it old school and The Chiweeniecopter (thank you, Kate) will choose a winner.
The Chiweenie of whom I speak.
